I wanted to drop some stuff that I play exclusively in sets and at footwork practice with TOG so picture this as a special gift to the world.

I started working on some of these in 2014. Others I finished up just last week.

Maschine, Ableton, MPC Studio with KRK speakers and sometimes Mackies.

V. (en) There’s only one collab track on the record, ‘Take Control’ with Paypal and Jana Rush. Was that a live collab? How did that play out?
We were in Chicago. I found a Big Pun interview while scrolling the internet and I decided to chop it up. I laid out the first 3 patterns, then Paypal heard it in the next room, came in without any words and hopped on it. After laying down the chords, Jana walked in, complimented the track then laid a pattern.

Estuvimos en Chicago. Encontré una entrevista de Big Pun scrolleando en internet y decidí cortarlo. Yo armé los primeros 3 patrones, después Paypal lo escuchó desde el cuarto de a lado, entró sin decir un palabra y se clavó en él. Después de hacer los acordes, Jana entró, elogió el track y agregó un patrón.

VI. (en) What is Take Ova Gang?
Takeova Gang is an undefeated footwork crew. Our purpose is to bring you the raw sound of footwork. It started with 4 members – Myself, my brother Dave, Lupay, and MB03. We started as a footwork battle clique but we also produced tracks that we and other people loved to dance to. Now, we’ve added more members, including international dancers and producers like Lotus Echo from Japan.
VI. (es) ¿Que es Take Ova Gang?
Takeova Gang es un footwork crew invicto. Nuestro propósito es llevar el sonido del footwork sin filtro. Comenzó con 4 miembros: mi hermano Dave, Lupay, MB03 y yo. Comenzamos como una clica de footwork battles, pero también producíamos tracks que a nosotros y a otros les gustaban bailar. Ahora hemos agregado más miembros, incluyendo bailarines internacionales y productores como Lotus Echo de Japón.

At Rocksteady I had to represent my title as this generation’s King of the Circle and show them real Chicago shit. I don’t just make tracks, I still battle whenever and wherever.

VIII. (en) Is there a new generation of footwork dancers in Chicago? What’s the status of Chicago Footwork?
Yes, we have some younger members in training currently, they will be ready to showcase very soon. Chicago is how its always been. More people are getting out and doing it everyday. There are also places like Markham Skating rink where kids meet up and battle. Footwork has grown its influence but the spirit of the culture hasn’t changed.
VIII (es) ¿Hay una nueva generación de bailarines de footwork en Chicago? ¿Cuál es el status del Chicago Footwork?
Sí, tenemos algunos miembros más jóvenes entrenando, van estar listos para presentarse muy pronto. Chicago es como siempre ha sido. Más gente esta saliendo y haciéndolo todo los días. También hay lugares como Markham Skating rink donde los chicos se juntan y hacen batallas de baile. La audiencia del footwork ha crecido pero el espíritu de la cultura no ha cambiado.

IX. (en) What’s next for TOG and DJ Jalen in 2018?
TOG is having tryouts this Spring and Summer for all of the new generation dancers in Chicago. We’re working on a new TOG LP and I just wrapped up production on my next release, “Takeova Time”, so look out for those. We’re also building a new YouTube channel that will focus on the past, present and future of TOG, including all of the previous and current members. I will be going on tour this year, be on the lookout for tour announcements.
IX. (es) ¿Que sigue para TOG y DJ Jalen en 2018?
TOG va a tener audiciones en primavera y verano para la nueva generación de bailarines en Chicago. Estamos trabajando en un nuevo LP de TOG y acabo de terminar de producir mi nuevo release, “Takeova Time”, así que estén atentos. También estamos armando un nuevo canal de YouTube enfocado al pasado, presente y futuro de TOG, incluyendo miembros anteriores y actuales. Voy a girar este año, estén atentos a los anuncios de las feachas.
